Dia de Los Muertos      DAY OF THE DEAD

Catholic festivals All Saints' Day and all Souls' Day (1st and 2nd November) are national holidays in Mexico. People honour deceased family members and friends by building private altars using sugar skulls, marigolds and visit the graves of their dearly departed bringing them their favourite foods, beverages and possessions. In East London we increasingly find ourselves doing the same thing, especially when honouring the memories of the very young and loved ones who have died unexpectedly, often in tragic circumstances. This exhibition explores how we honour our dead and hopes to touch the hearts of policy makers so that our city becomes a safer place to live.
